Information
This site does not currently have policy data, this is a way for users to sign up to access the API. We’ll be developing a simple query tool you can use to get information from the database behind the API. For now, we recommend going to Guttmacher, KFF, Abortion Finder, or Lawyers for Good Governance for general information about abortion laws in effect.

Accessing the API
Abortion laws can be confusing. Many of them use vague language or terms that don’t have a clinical or legal definition. Our data comes with explanations about the policies that we hope is helpful. If you have questions, please reach out. If we can’t answer your question, we can point you to someone who can.
NOTE–We do not provide legal advice. If you have questions about the law, please consult your attorney.
Policy Questions?
The Abortion Policy API reflects policies currently in effect. Many states have conflicting laws on the books. In other circumstances, a court may have issued an injunction, so that a policy may be on the books, but not in effect. And then just because a law is in effect doesn’t mean that care is available. To find out what care is available, or to find an abortion provider, we recommend checking out ineedana.com or abortionfinder.org.
